How I Use MY Gymboss

My clients grin and sometimes cringe when they see me pull out the Gymboss because they know things are about to get fun but possibly sinister too!

VO2 Max Training

Remember how kettlebell training can burn up to 1,212 calories in an hour, or 20.2 calories per minute? The protocol used was created by Kenneth Jay, a Danish Olympic coach, researcher, author, lecturer, Z-Health Master Trainer and former Master RKC Kettlebell Instructor. It calls for 15 seconds of work followed by 15 seconds of rest. If actually trying to improve your VO2max then there is a specific protocol I won't outline here but it requires very strict adherence to the 15 on and 15 off.

What better way to make sure you stay on target with exact time than a BEEP or vibration from your trusty Gymboss Interval Timer.

Use the dual interval setting on your Gymboss for this so it counts your rounds for you. A great way to track progress.

Tabata Protocols

Perhaps the most amazing kick-butt cardio conditioning protocol around, plus the most grueling around. The Tabata Protocol was named after Japanese researcher Dr. Izumi Tabata... imagine that!

I personally used the Tabata protocol with burpees, sprints, rolling deck squats and swings during a 3-month layoff from snatches. What happened when I came back to snatches after 3 months of Tabatas you ask? ...I set a new personal best by hitting the US Secret Service Snatch test in 9 minutes!!!

The USSST calls for 200 reps in the kettlebell snatch with a 53 lber for men (26 for women) in 10 minutes or less. A grueling feat of manliness, or womanliness for that matter! Prior to the Tabatas I could do about 120 in 10 minutes.

Dr. Tabata discovered that his Tabata protocol actually improved both short-term burst cardio and long-term endurance, now that is cool! All athletes can benefit from this gem.

The protocol is 20 seconds of work followed by 10 seconds of rest. The maximum number of rounds is 8! That may not sound like much, and it isn't if you are doing easy exercises but when you do all out exercises as the true Tabata calls for then you will be lucky to survive 3 rounds!

Use the dual interval setting on your Gymboss for this.

Density Training

This gem helped me get over 70 reps in the kettlebell snatch with a 70 lb kettlebell in less than 5 minutes. You set your Gymboss Interval Timer for intervals of 1 minute on the single interval setting. Then pick a predetermined number of reps to do with snatches or swings, say 18 reps. Now start the Gymboss timer and begin your swings or snatches. When you hit your 18 reps, set the kettlebell down and use the rest of the minute for your rest break. As soon as your Gymboss beeps or vibrates do your next round. Continue for 5 or 10 rounds (minutes) as desired. Each training session try to get just one more rep per minute, it will add up quick.

Sprint Intervals

Another beauty of the Gymboss is the belt clip and vibration feature. Since it is so small and so light you can clip it to the waistband of your shorts, set it to vibrate, throw on your iPod and do sprint intervals outside in the sunshine! The belt clip has teeth so it won't come off and you don't need to hear the beep since it has a vibration function, you can even turn the beep off.

Boxing, Thai Boxing or MMA Rounds

Yeah who needs an expensive timer or a coach watching a stop watch? Just set up your Gymboss for boxing round (3 minutes rounds with 1 minutes rest) or Thai Boxing rounds (2 minutes of sparring with 1 minute of rest), etc.

When I train fighters I do kettlebell intervals set at the same time as the rounds of the sport they will fight in.

Dishes

I hate cleaning so I set my timer and see how many dishes I can wash in 25 seconds... ok now I'm just making stuff up... just get the darn timer!

By the way did I mention this thing is cheap?

How does $19.95 sound?

Ok enough already, I don't need to beat a dead horse, I know you want this thing so here is the link.
