CoEnzyme Q10
Heart Health & Energy Our bodies use an enzyme – CoQ10 – to make energy for our heart cells to do their work. As we age, this enzyme's levels drop. Cholesterol lowering statin drugs also destroy CoQ10 and ultimately have been shown to cause heart attacks. If you take statins you absolutely need to talk to your doctor about taking CoQ10 to keep your heart healthy. In people that are considered "high risk" for heart disease a great alternative to dangerous statin drugs is a combination of: • CoQ10 This combo has been shown to be far more effective and safer than statin drugs in keeping heart tissue healthy and blood vessels flexible and health. According to Dr. Mercola, D.O., certain amino acids have been shown to help as well, taurine, arginine and carnitine. These can be obtained in pill form from a health food store or you may get sufficient levels from simply taking a high quality whey protein (since whey protein has a very complete amino acid profile compared to other forms of protein). Grass-fed organic beef and buffalo are also good sources of those amino acids. If your health care professional has informed you that you are a high risk for heart attack/disease then you do need to take action immediately. In addition to starting an appropriate exercise program, reducing stress and improving sleep, you should absolutely consult your health care professional about CoQ10, Niacin, Omega 3 fatty acids and even those amino acids.

It is advisable to start with lower doses of niacin and CoQ10 as they are pretty powerful. Some people experience flushing of the cheeks and other extremities when taking high doses. Niacin is a vasodilator, which means it opens blood vessels, this is a good thing but once again start small and build up, otherwise follow your health provider's recommendations. |
