1. Training Tip: "Aerobics or Not Aerobics? That is the Question"
Aerobic classes permeate our gyms and fitness culture across America. Everyone wants to burn fat by doing aerobics. But are aerobics really the best way to burn fat?
Would you rather put the money from your paycheck (what's left of it after taxes and bills that is) under your bed where it just sits or in a high-interest bank account where it will earn you more money while you do nothing? This is a pass/fail quiz! Of course you would rather have the money making more money while you don't have to do any MORE work for it!
Aerobics is like putting the money under the mattress, you only burn calories 'while' you are doing them. However, intense interval training that challenges your heart and muscles is like putting money in a high interest bank account. You burn calories while doing them AND due to an elevated metabolic effect you continue to burn calories for several hours AFTER you are finished!
OK guys, I know you like to hit the weights already... but have any of you ladies had a change of mind yet? "Let's see, I can spend 1 hour on an elliptical machine or treadmill or in an aerobics class and burn 'x' calories OR I can spend 30-45 mins (or less) doing some more intense interval training and strength training and loose even more calories!!! OH and Brian says I won't bulk up and get big either!!!"
The most successful fat loss programs in the world use intense interval/strength training and a smart nutrition program. Do you want to be on the most successful system or the "girls are supposed to do aerobics because TV and magazines told me so system?" Case closed!
The training I provide my clients works because I follow systematic, scientific and time-proven methods that really work. Whether you visit me at my studio ABC Fitness & Yoga or whether you purchase my online Personalized Program Design and train at home you will be fitted with a successful program based on cold hard science that yields results! Who loves ya? ;-)
2. Nutrition Tip: "Do You Live to Eat or Eat to Live?"
It's no lie that at least 50% if not 70% of loosing body fat OR gaining muscle lies in your nutrition habits. Think about it, if you are smart you will spend 30-45 mins 3-6 days per week engaged in some form of exercise. Preferably interval training, see my article above! But the other 165 hours of the week if you are sabotaging your results by cramming your cake holes with... cake, well then don't expect to look great in that 2-piece this summer. Guys, please don't wear a 2-piece!
But it comes down to do you live to eat or eat to live. Living to eat means you let your passions run wild and eat anything your heart desires.
Example: Starbucks with sugary goodness sounds great for breakfast every morning right? But what does it do for your body nutritionally? Aside from causing your liver, kidneys and other internal organs extra stress to detox that junk you just put in it; all of that sugar raises your insulin, drops your metabolism, makes you feel sluggish after a little while and adds no vitamins, minerals, phytonutrients, protein or healthy fat to your body. You end up feeling like you need another Starbucks and probably go get one at lunch time huh?
Eating to live means you put things into your body to improve your life! Just imagine the effects of drinking more water; healthier/younger looking skin, eliminate feelings of fatigue, improve the brain's ability to function, helps prevent kidney problems, etc. Imagine adding a 'healthy' balanced breakfast every morning. You would fill your body with the nutrients it needs to provide energy, keep your brain functioning at work, create a stronger immune system to fight off the flu, colds and all the other junk that your unhealthy coworkers pass along to you everyday. And if fat loss is your goal... it kicks your metabolism into high gear! Yes that's right, eating 'properly' raises your metabolism which means you will burn more calories even though you are not working out! AMAZING! Who would have thought it?
Now don't be a Spartan! Give your self either 1 free day per week where you can eat anything you want OR give yourself 4 free meals throughout the week. Don't cheat, keep yourself honest by writing down everything you eat in a food journal. That is fancy talk for a small spiral notebook that fits in your purse or pocket that you take with you everywhere. This one simple technique could mean the difference between the body of your dreams and the body of your nightmares! ;-)
Now eating healthy in our busy lifestyle can be a challenge but take a look at my Articles section; you will find many recipes designed for quick easy breakfasts. Who loves ya?

4. Charity in Focus: "Precious Ones Outreach International"
My friend Janet "Ama" Annan has a special place in her heart for orphaned and abused children all over the world. She is the founder of Precious Ones of God Outreach International a non-profit organization that takes in orphaned and neglected children and gives them clothes, housing, food and schooling. I have volunteered my time and talents with this organization and can tell you that they are legitimate and make a real difference in the lives of hurting children. In fact, Janet and her husband both work full-time jobs just so they can provide more money to help the children. She can use all of the support she can get. No guilt trip but if you are moved in your heart then please visit her at her website here.
Until next time, train and eat like ATHLETES not hamsters and reap the rewards of a healthy, lean, sexy/studly body!
