What is General Fitness?

Most people's idea of general fitness is losing a few pounds and looking better in a bathing suit. I certainly agree, but there is more... way more.

The Problem

Most people are either seeking the easiest solution to fitness or the hardest solution. We all know that the 5-minute ab chair doohickey thing on late night TV won't do you any good but that 2-hour long workout-till-you-puke boot-camp really isn't very healthy either. In fact in most cases adding too much exercise can plateau fat loss as the body becomes overstressed and releases too much fat-storing cortisol!

Somewhere in the middle lies the healthy choice.

But the average person... no, the average personal trainer doesn't understand what it is that YOU as an individual needs to be your healthiest.

Things like:

  • How to improve the health of your joints while exercising

  • How to burn calories faster and easier

  • How to get your youthful flexibility back quick

  • Which exercises build a heatlhy heart and which ones damage your heart!

  • BAD IDEA! Why pushing too hard during exercise will lead to pain

  • Discover the favorite "healthy and strong" core exercise of the world's leading spine biomechanist

  • Why you should NEVER feel pain while you exercise

  • Breathing and tension tricks to instantly double or triple your strength

  • How a 69 year old woman does all of the family's heavy lifting around the house by utilizing this secret trip to safe and strong lifting

  • Why long aerobics classes and jogging are making you weak, slow and at risk for heart disease

  • Why lifting light weights for high reps is getting you nowhere fast

  • Why lifting heavier is actually safer AND tones muscles better

  • Why you WON'T accidentally get too big or put on too much muscle

  • If you DO want to pack on muscle, how to go about it

  • Doing this with your neck while you exercise could make Chiropractors a lot of money, I'll show you what to do instead

  • The dangers of fad types of exercise

  • Why traditional stretching is one of the worst things you can do to your body, do this instead

  • Which types of exercise could be injuring your body... the answer is a lot of them

  • How to eat, when to eat, what to eat to get lean and mean

  • Why treadmills, elliptical machines and stair masters could be causing your low back pain and not burning enough calories to help you get lean anyway

One of my clients and a friend is a successful Chiropractor and tells me how many patients he gets that receive injuries while involved in some popular fitness fads that are sweeping the nation... I won't mention them here but believe me, you would be surprised if you found out! Sometimes the truth hurts... figuratively and litterally!

The good thing is with proper exercise you can burn calories faster, have more fun doing it and get toned, strong and flexible all while improving the health of your joints and heart at the same time!

Nutrition... Change is Pain!

"Change is pain" is the new buzz-phrase in motivational speaking. The jist is that anyone can tell you to change, anyone can get a self-help book, a nutrition book or an exercise book... but learning what to do is different than actually doing it.

We have deep rooted neurological wiring that detests change. For instance... think of a time when change was forced upon you, such as a new computer system at work. How did most people respond? They were unhappy, complained, grumbled and otherwise hated the change... until they got used to it.

That is exactly how the human brain works.

Also, any personal trainer, Doctor, Nutritionist or Dietician can tell you what and how to eat but almost none of them understand that knowing and doing are different. Most people don't have the ability to just change what they eat... they need the help of a coach who understands that change is hard.

My job is to help you find your inner motivation and work with you to make gradual changes that you agree to and that you feel good about. Over time this builds lasting habits that stick with you for life and keep you lean and healthy for the rest of your life rather than "just as long as you keep following your diet."

So how does one enjoy a healthy fit lifestyle the right way? Read below.

"I have lost 10 lbs in 5 weeks and I'm looking forward
to further hard work and results.
I love training here! Brian is professional, accommodating,
gives lots of personal attention and it is a comfortable
and fun environment."

The Solution

Brian's clients are privy to his extensive knowledge acquired from a lifetime of experience in the field, continual education and by surrounding himself with some of the most respected authorities in the medical and fitness world. Many of the things Brian will teach you sound contradictory to what the rest of the fitness world is spewing... but then again, if what you are doing now is working so well then you wouldn't be reading this would you?

Proper exercise has been shown to do the following:

  • Decrease stress
  • Improve sleep
  • Eliminate depression
  • Burn fat and tone muscle (of course)
  • Strengthen bones and reduce the risk of osteoporosis
  • Improve posture
  • Prevent or remove arthritis and joint pains
  • Optimize and regulate your hormones such as thyroid, estrogen, testosterone, insulin, cortisol, DHEA and more
  • Improve your outlook on life
  • Keep the doctor away!
  • Strengthen your immune system and prevent disease
  • Improve vision!
  • Improve brain functioning, that means make you smarter!
  • Eliminate ADD, ADHD, dyslexia and more! (once again the power of neural development)

Now I'm not sure who wouldn't want the above benefits. Now do you see why I say fitness is more than just looking good in a bathing suit! Not that looking good isn't important of course.

So what is general fitness?

Simple, it is performance. Performance means something different for every one; for the athlete it means being better at their sport, for a grandmother it may mean the ability to play with her grand kids without experiencing pain. Either way, a body that performs well, looks well also. Train for performance, train like an athlete, not a hamster!

But wait! I can just exercise on my own at home...

According to the Denver Post consumers purchase $4 billion worth of exercise gear every year for their home but less than 40% of them use it and of those 40% people say that they use it less than expected.
Kurt A. Carlson, asst. professor at Duke University says that very few people have the motivation to exercise on their own at home. Everyone else should take their money and put it to better use by hiring a personal trainer to get them motivated.

I would suggest an even better use... use it on my services and get even better results! Realize that I am a little biased though

"Brian's dedication and commitment to his clients goes above and beyond. This is evident by his genuine concern for our well being and continual push to expand his knowledge and skill set. Aside from the personal benefits I've received from Kettlebells (decreased chronic low back pain, more balanced bilateral strength and improved overall core strength), if I'm not enjoying the activity, it's hard to stay motivated. Brian always maintains a great energy in his classes. Who knew working out could actually be fun!"

Just for the ladies, what can kettlebell training do for you.
